After careful control of molecular design and synthesis, research result dealts with high-performance topics including electro-optic ultra-fast switching, solid-state polymer laser, and polymer photonic crystals for low power operation. Though these polymer materials and optical devices have been considered as a future technology, it is becoming important recently because materials can provide much easier processing capability with promising properties compared with inorganic processes. Research is employed to approach “molecular engineering” to tailor size, shape, sequence, and functionality of organic and polymeric materials and explore their applications to: ・Electro-optic polymers for high-speed communications technology・Polymer solid-state photonics device・Fabrication of nano-micro scale polymer optical structuresTo complements these efforts, research maintain state-of-the-art research fields in materials chemistry, photonics, and polymer nanao-micro scale manufacturing.
