For this purpose, data of great volume is transmitted through communication networks. Data volume has increased explosively beyond comparison, from voice, picture, movie and high resolution motion pictures. Data volume will grow at an accelerated pace, and networks must process these data smoothly. For data processing in future networks, novel high speed devices with new function and low power consumption are required. Photo-electronic devices and photo-electronic integrated systems are powerful candidates for this purpose. In this system, electronics and photonics technologied are merged to fabricate novel devices utilizing each strength. Purpose of our laboratory is to create devices of new concept based on reserch on electronics and photonics technologies.
